Live Plants as home decor can liven and freshen up a space. This spring, succulents and cacti seem to on trend for decor at home. For those of you like me who are not blessed with the "green thumb", this is excellent news! Water once a week and keep in direct sunlight- if you forget for a few days, no worries! These little guys are very resilient in dry soil. Succulents come in many shades of green, from grey-blue, to bright greens, while cacti come in many shapes and colours and often bloom with little flowers throughout the year! You can dress them up in cute plant pots to suit your own personal decor taste and make a statement in your rooms. Galvanized pots, modern painted concrete pots and glass terrariums are very popular right now, as well as the classic clay pot.
I was out this past weekend and picked up some succulents, cacti, and pots of my own! See below for info on where I got them.
The lovely owner of The Flower Shop on Granville Street in Downtown Halifax, Charlotte, helped me choose the beautiful grey-green succulents below. They look so cute re-potted into this galvanized planter set that I purchased for $3 at the Dollarama (all I had to do was nail holes into the bottoms of each pot for proper drainage)! Charlotte and her team created our stunning bouquets and center pieces for our wedding in 2013, complete with beautiful juliet garden roses, dusty miller, white wax flower, and brasilia flower. The shop is adorable, the products are fresh and beautiful, and the customer service is impeccable! They're located across from NSCAD, on 1887 Granville Street, stop in next time you're looking for some beautiful blooms, you cant miss it, they have the cutest storefront I've ever seen!
I picked up the cacti below at Kent's garden center and re-potted them into another of the galvanized pot sets. The cactus on the left is an "old man of the Andes" cactus (hilarious name, but very suiting) as the cactus is speckled with tall wiery hair-like features. The cactus in the middle is a "bristle-brush" cactus, which blooms with little magenta flowers during the year. The cactus on the left is a "golden orb" cactus, and grows in a spherical shape. It also flowers throughout the year. These were all only $4 ea, and the shelves were full with them!
I've placed mine up on my shelves next to our windows so they can soak up the sunshine all day long! If you've been inspired by this post, happy planting!
