What You'll Need:
- plastic toy animals (if not previously spray painted, you'll need to purchase a can of spray paint and give them 2-3 even coats of paint (leave at least 2 hrs in between coats to dry properly).
- large kitchen chopping knife/ butcher's knife
- roll of adhesive magnet (I purchased a roll at Dollarama)
You'll need to carefully slice the animals in half. The easiest, most effective way to get a clean cut is to use a large kitchen chopping knife, or a butchers knife. When slicing, do NOT saw with the knife, the toy slips under the knife and we don't need you to slice your finger instead of the animal!!! I found if you simply place the knife in the center of the toy, and rock it back and forth while applying pressure on top of the knife, it will cut through. Be patient, it takes about 40-60 seconds of this repetitive motion to get the cut all the way through. I used a cloth between the top of the knife and my hand while applying pressure for some cushioning.
Snip off pieces of the adhesive magnet strip that will fit to the backs of the halved animals. The magnetic strip I purchased had an adhesive backing, however I advise using superglue just for that extra bit of adhesion (these magnets are so cute and funny, you'll want them to last!). After adding a drop of superglue to the adhesive side of the magnet, line it up on the flat part of the halved toy animal and place it on. Repeat to all "fronts and behinds" of your toy animals.
Pop them up on the fridge (or magnet board) & enjoy everyone's laughs and smiles!
